San Joaquin Section
Welcome to San Joaquin Section
Greetings CASCWA and San Joaquin Section Members,
Welcome back to everyone as they return from what was hopefully an enjoyable summer that provided some rest and relaxation. It is often difficult for those who have dedicated themselves to serving student needs under the CWA umbrella of services to remember that we need to take care of ourselves in order to be in a position to continually meet the needs of the students and families we serve. So, I hope you took advantage of the opportunity to do so.
The San Joaquin Section members are pleased to announce that we have fully recovered from hosting the 2018 CASCWA State Conference which in terms of numbers in attendance and money raised for the section and state was a colossal success.
Our hope is that all who attended found that the conference provided you with all that you were looking for in terms of professional development and allowed you to mix in a little fun as well. I wish to thank all of the members who devoted so much of their time and effort to making the conference a success, as well as our presenters, sponsors and partners throughout the section and state. Hope to see you all in Napa next April.
We, in conjunction with the Stanislaus County Office of Education, held the 9th annual SCOE SARB Conference on August 30-31 at the Petersen Event Center in Modesto. The conference was entitled “Hit The Ground Running!! Chronic Absenteeism, Interventions, Strategies & Ideas”. This training opportunity allowed attendees to be certified by the Stanislaus County Office of Education as having met the required annual training for Attendance Supervisors as outlined in the California Education Code.
For me, CASCWA exemplifies what is right in education today with a membership that combines tremendous knowledge, understanding, collaboration, camaraderie and most importantly, a true heart for the welfare of children and their families. It is my honor to serve as the President of the San Joaquin section for this upcoming year

Anthony Brucia Success Awards – Scholarship
In the 1990’s, the San Joaquin Section scholarship program was launched under the leadership of past CASCWA President, Joe Brucia. His 19 year old son, Anthony had just passed away. There were many community donations given toward a fund in his name. Knowing that most donated funds soon run out, Joe and his wife, Shirley, offered to transfer the funds to CASCWA. To accept the donation, CASCWA had to match and perpetuate the fund. CASCWA accepted and soon made the award an annual event that now reaches students attending high schools throughout Central California. As of May 2016, just over $100,000 has been provided to the winners of this award.
Award Application 2018-19: This year’s San Joaquin’s scholarship process is being finalized. It is anticipated that the 2018-19 scholarship applications and information will be posted around February 1, 2019. Below you will find specific information from last year’s process:
