Hello Delta Sierra Members,

It is my honor to introduce myself as the new CASCWA -Delta Sierra section President. I am looking forward to another sensational year with this phenomenal organization. I’m pleased to be a part of a great team of individuals that serve the children of today, in preparation for the next generation.

First off, I would like to take this time to thank everyone who attended the CASCWA -Delta Sierra Annual State Conference in Tahoe City this past April. Delta Sierra is honored to say, the 2017 State Conference was a huge success, being CASCWA’s largest conference in past history. This conference was a success due to the amazing presenters, exhibitors and all the hard work that was put in by our State Conference Committee, to you I say, Thank You. The sessions were very informative, engaging and thorough, with the most up-to-date information brought to you by your colleagues from around the state. We hope to see you again at the Delta Sierra State Conference in 2021!

For the upcoming year, my hope is to engage more Delta Sierra members to participate in our section, being that we are the largest geographical section of CASCWA. We will be looking at ways to expand our perpetual scholarship program in hopes of helping more students with their plans for post-secondary education.

At the State Conference, we were honored to be able to introduce one of last year’s Richard C. Davis Scholarship recipients, Yulisa Mendez. Yulisa graciously helped us by opening the conference while sharing her personal story, as well as an update on her career plans of becoming a nurse to better her future as well as that of her daughters. Delta Sierra will continue to share valuable information with our section members that will help support our children.

Last but not least, I would like to thank the Delta Sierra board for their continued support. I look forward to another electrifying year with Delta Sierra!

The “Richard C. Davis Scholarship Award” was established in 1986 by the Delta/Sierra section of the California Association of Supervisors, Child Welfare and Attendance.

Two “One Thousand Dollar” scholarships are awarded annually to a Continuation or Alternative school graduate who is planning to continue their education in college or a vocational training school. The scholarship award was designed to recognize the resiliency of a student who has overcome personal obstacles to graduate from high school.
